  4. Hi!  thanks for taking the time to play with ASCIIPaint...

  11. What is ASCIIPaint?
  12. **************************************************************
  13. It's a program that lets you paint, like you would with other Macintosh painting programs.
  14. The big difference is that you are painting with ASCII characters.
  15.  
  16. ASCII characters are letters, number, symbols, and any other character
  17. you have on your keyboard.
  18.  
  19. Currently, the ASCIIPaint grid size is 62x23...the size of a standard eWorld chat window.

  23. How do you use it?
  24. **************************************************************
  25. Well, it's simple...just create a new document, and start painting.
  26. The current brush is whatever key you press on the keyboard.
  27.  
  28. •    Erasing is now done by pressing the eraser tool button on the command ribbon.
  29.     You can also activate this tool by pressing the space bar.  Pressing any other
  30.     letter will reselect the paint tool, with that letter as the current brush.
  31.  
  32. •    You can turn on a grid by selecting pressing the grid button in the ribbon bar.
  33.  
  34. •    By holding the shift key down while you paint, ASCIIPaint will only paint
  35.     in a straight line in the direction you start moving the brush
  36.     (horizontal, or vertical).

  38.     There is a minor bug at the moment, this feature doesn't work when the
  39.     caps lock is on.

  41. •    The entire drawing may be copied to the clipboard by selecting "Copy", from
  42.     the Edit menu (CMD-C).

  45. •    ASCIIPaint also allows you to type text onto the drawing.  To do this press the
  46.     Text tool button on the command ribbon..it's the one with the T...then anywhere
  47.     you click will place the insertion point...then type away!
  48.     (Yes I know there's now flashing I beam..I'm working on it!)

  52. What does it create?
  53. **************************************************************
  54. ASCIIPaint creates standard text documents.  You can then open these files in a
  55. word processor, and include them in something else.
  56.  
  57. ASCIIPaint is also nifty for creating online art...you can paint a picture,
  58. and use it with a macro program, like QuickKeys or TypeIt4Me!
  59.  
  60. Remember, you can also copy the picture directly onto the clipboard.
  61. Then, you can paste it into any program that accepts text pasting.

  84. •    You can now press the space bar from any mode and switch to eraser mode.
  85.     Pressing a key other than space will switch to painting mode and make the pressed
  86.     key the current paint brush.
